With safety in mind, AEM installed a multi-point roll cage. The car was then delivered to Harman Motive for baseline dyno testing. As delivered, the mostly stock WRX put an impressive 199 horsepower and 211 lb/ft of torque to the wheels on Harman Motive’s Mustang MD500SE dynamometer.
With baseline testing complete, Harman Motive installed their new GT35R turbo kit and intercooler into the WRX. Larger injectors and a high-flow fuel pump were installed to handle the increased horsepower levels.

Next, an AEM programmable engine management system was installed with a custom wiring harness to control boost, fuel, and spark.
With the engine modifications completed, the car was strapped to the dyno for some custom tuning. Running 110 octane fuel, Dan Harman calibrated the WRX’s AEM engine control to deliver 26 psi of peak boost pressure to the stock engine. This resulted in an amazing 449 horsepower and 411 lb/ft of torque at the wheels!!
The 2008 WRX is an excellent tuning platform. Special thanks goes to the engineers at Subaru for providing us with such a solid engine package. Any engine that can handle more than double the stock horsepower is quite impressive.
