Driving habbits/tips

Post by skidmarx »

good driving practices

my first input, driving very close the car ahead of you and keeping directly behind the car.

My suggestion, and this is what i really do, i keep offset halfway out into the other lane, just incase the driver ahead of me brakes suddenly, that offset would allow me to swing out into the other lane faster instead of having to completely swing out the complete width of my vehicle, which most likely would cause me to hit the vehicle infront.

Next would be avoiding potholes or obstacles.

most times i am being driven i experience that. the driver avoids a pothole quickly and instantly steers back to his current line. thats bad, because if you avoid an obstacle at 30 mph you have less momentum, less inertia, at 75 its a different thing. What i do is avoid the obstacle or the pothole most times, by steering away but not aggressively returning to my line, i gently kill off the inertia by steering back in slower than i steered out. because remember, on a dry road u may be forgiven, but if you keep that practice then on a wet road its another story. so i practice the safest on the wet and keep it on the dry too. saved me alot of times.

Downhill misshift.

Ask Krymahar about me+him+the old mitsubishi bus that weighs almost nothing.
going downhill in 4th gear and gently playing with the brakes is nice, and i love it too, no restriction. now think about you just approaching the intersection in loubiere coming from the kubuli factory road. approaching voice of life radio station and shifting to 3rd gear and applying brake, clutching out and then nothing. gear didnt go in, trying to put it in, wrecking. thinking......too fast to drop to 2nd because 1...bus weighs almost nothing, 2 road is descending and not the best traction can be had and 3 intersection coming up with a tight turn across two lanes and i am the only one who has to give way to traffic, everyone else can go through. So here we go, engage second gear and rear tyres lock, bus slides, i keep it on the road counter steering, clutch in, brake, look quickly for traffic, praise Jah none, steer right for the lil bridge, scare them lazy bench fellers off the bridge, clutch out, lock rear tyres, straighten up and throttle the hell outta here. oh and pull over for a few to stop trembling. DRIVING DEALS ALOT WITH RESPOSIBILITY-

YOU SHOULD KNOW YOUR LIMIT AS EVERY PERSON HAS ONE. IT MAY HAPPEN THAT THE VEHICLE YOU NOW OWN OR DRIVE YOU HAVE BECOME ACCUSTOM TO OR PASSED IT'S LEVEL BUT DON'T TAKE IT THAT YOU HAVE DONE IT ON ALL.

WET ROAD DRIVING HMM WE HAD A RED 2WHEEL HILUX (NO POWER STERRING-- (IMAGING I USE TO STAND ON THAT STEERING WHEEL TO TAKE A CORNER HARD LOL JUST KIDDING)THAT THING COULD TAKE A DRY CORNER AT ANY THING YOU HIT IT BUT WET ROAD U HAD TO BE CAREFULL UNTIL I REALISE THE TYRES WEREN'T WET ROAD APPLICABLE, OUR ROADS IN D/CA HOLD LESS WATER THAN IN STATES YET THEY GOT MORE TRACTTION HERE STRANGE, UP HERE ITS HITTING THE PUDDLES OF WATER TOO QUICK THAT COULD F**K U UP, D/CA ITS OUR CORNERS WITH PROPER TYRES HOWEVER D/CA GIVES MORE OF A THRILL,

wet road
1) give ample space incase of manuevers,
2) little compression where necessary it may be gradually thickend, never go into it direct, little braking
3)tyres got to ensure u got the right tyre before you chance it.

I NOT SURE HOW SOME MIGHT SEE IT A VEHILCE WITHOUT POWER STEERING MAN I DON'T KNOW, I JUST FEEL I CAN HIT A CORNER WITH IT ANY TIME WET OR DRY.

foggy weather deals alot with you tracing your line, good lights, & ps knowing the area is the most important. i admit i did a few careless runns up here 'new terrains", in fogg but it was necessary for me to get where i had to go.

i did most of my early driving with no P/S u just inflated the tyres properly and my steering was more sensitive. bout 2 or 3 psi above the recommended pressure. but the rear at the correct pressure, under wet conditions, i shift early to avoid that jerky transfer of power that would cause slip to the rear. downshifts....smooth release of the clutch coupled with a nice synchronized brakes and the vehicle wouldnt slip. anyhoo i like to live on the threshold of traction loss. lol. and put the suspension to its max travel when i corner...i dunno its just so kool when that happens, the vehicle seems to corner more stable when i do that.

Take advantage of wet roads, take low speed corners a lil faster than u normally would, keep the car on the edge of loosing controle, do this over and over faster each time, just enough so u don't spin out. Now use the same drivng style in the dry and see how fast u go thur corners with very little load on your tires and suspension.
