The reason VTEC is so celebrated is because it was the first production variable timing technology, built into an already solid engine making more hp per liter that anything at the time. all the other letters you hear - mivec, vvti - all of them came after VTEC. To be fair, i have to agree that now the technology is a bit overhyped (by owners, not so much Honda) as others have created there own version of VTEC...but you cannot deny it was a pioneer technology.

Damien thats wrong...BMW was the first to implement variable valve timing, and their system is far more advanced than what was on the market. Vtec-E will be the only system nearing the double Vanos system from BMW, but that comes out till 2009 in production vehicles.

The other systems are completely different implimentations because they each have their own Patents involved

N/a cars have a place and given the Right approach can dominate on the street. Boosted cars lack the response that N/a cars have.


Now as for vtec. Skid as an enthusiast you should appreciate vtec for what it is and how it differs from other companies.

Toyotas VVT doesn't offer any significant performance improvement over the non vvt engines...reason its not boasted about. and its not found in their main performance engines.
VVTi, which is different has its limitations, and its limitations is where Vtec has its advantages.

Mivec isn't marketed as hardly as vtec is...notice how few mitsubishi engines actually employ it. and the last 4G63 incarnation only included the vvt type version of mivec.

I have ridden in both Vtec and Non vtec variants of each cars. the vtec behaves just like the non vtec engines when they are off vtec, makes same power etc.

yeah i posted that vid sometime ago. But if u notice...a lot of the interior of that civic is missing + its wasn't a stock K20 niether was the evo modified.

But a decently built K20 in a light chassis EF or EG will give quite a bit of modified evos trouble, esp on top end

The main issue stem from people making uninformed comments... You don't know what you talking about so the best thing to do is sit back or go to wikipedia and look up vtec or variable valve systems etc and learn something then comment. I am not likin the level of ignorant talk on here.. Step it up!

Hondas are excellent cars if you want to conserve fuel and get a good resale for value ride or if you like teenage girls. Real men drive RWD. THEY DO RIDE HOs. Yeah 900whp in a Honda is a wondeful number......unuseable bro. No traction and snapped axles. No problem for a Supra or SC300/Soarer. You'll wanna talk about weight...trust me you need it at those power levels. Now to answer yor question.......They are over rated. They only reason they are so hyped is because they the only cheap alternative at the time to USDM muscle and every possible mod was made avaiable, include that purple thong that comes with car when you purchase one.

You my friend obviously have no idea what you are talking about, but I will pretend you do and respond to you anyway. Real men drive RWD cars? So I guess I'm just a boy then. Let me bring you back to reality. In racing there are what you call classes. RWD, FWD, AWD, NA, TURBO ect. Why would you compare a 4 cyl NA car to a 6 cyl. turbo car? And the guy in the Supra who I saw lost his money that night must have had a mentallity just like you. "There is no way a Honda can beat my Supra. I will put up any amount of money and bet on that". And then go home with his tail between his legs.

And why is 900hp unusable? He needs it for racing. I never said the car was daily driven. I said it was street legal i.e. It has registration, license plates, insurance, all working lights, oem glass and a full interior. If you know anything about driving fast, anybody will tell you that a FWD car is way more difficult to handle at 150mph (if you know what that feels like) than a RWD car. So if it takes a "real" man to drive RWD, you must need god to drive FWD.

Oh BTW this didn't come with a purple thong when I bought it. They must have forgotten to add it to my accessory package.

every1 has their preference of car brand, i tink any car can be made fast with parts and proper tuning, nothing wrong with hondas, just that de owners hype it up too much and can only do so much so they get flak for it. my $0.02 CHA CHING!!
