Never said they are the best or the only...i was jus troubling cee with my biased view

SR20s are nice...just not my bag of tea

I may add an EJ20 to my stable..but wouldn't do much to it

When i weigh all the others against each other and what is necessary to get me to my goal..the 4G fits my budget and needs much better than the others do in terms of expense and reliability.

Call me biased...crazy...what not...I am not saying u have to share my view...some love the SR...some love the FJ...some love the 3S....since i 5 years old i love the 4G63

i had a 4g63-t, oh my DSM= headache, they say the engines were built in japan,created shipped then installed in ohio or what not.. don't know bout the newer version motors 5 upward
but lifter tick, crank walk, hmmm prone to rod knock, ohhh not to mention wierd leaks, oil, coolant... exhaust manifold... power steering pump leaking into alternator, burns alternator, oil pump failure, bent valves,clogged oil squirters ohthey stick open....

4G63 fanatics may dismiss this claims, talk to any of those eclipse owners you'll get a laundry list of issues, that's the 1G 2G motor Evo 3 style engines.ok once you battle all those issues, you can have a pretty fast ride they respond well to mods I haven;t found one that runs or sounds in my favor.

In terms of 4 cylinder engines my list would be.....

SR20DET all years especially nvcs models (rocker issue:( )
K20 from Honda
3SGE Beams
4A-GE/ze
4g63 evo 4>>>>>>>
4E-FTE/5E
KA24DE
EJ20
FS- Mazda ( found in the Mazdaspeed Protege)
B18C
B16A




My list is not based solely on performance I am also considering from a reliability, stand point, ease of repair...

The SR20 is a stout lil monster, responds well to mods, head flows well, great rod ratio for rev and boost. I prefer to remain impartial towards engine choice, most people like an engine because of the attention it receives, this is mainly due to the fact that they were widely available to those with the resources to push them to the limit. Just as Hondas became popular. Many platforms out there can lay hp down, takes knowledge,resources***(B.T), and a creative nitch..

1. Evo 4 Engines were prone to Crankwalk. Evo 3 also, EVO 1-2 and Cyclone engines were more solid.
lifter tick - Usually a sign of low oil and its a Mitsu thing not only 4G
crank walk - More prone to the Ohio built engines and the
Oil pump failure - Well lets see...new oil pump was already on my list as part of the Engine rebuild...but i wasn't aware that All 4Gs had oil pump problems? But hey u learn something new every day.
Bent Valves- Isn't that related to poor timing?
Clogged oil squirters - Thats another interesting one...guess i need to do more reading up on the 4G...although a lot of the projects i have seen through have never come across these kinda hurdles...Only one cranked walk, but then he was also not maintaining the car...He eh sure if it eat bearings from lack of oil or if it Crank walk, but the block was almost dry when he drained the oil pan.

Talkin bout weird oil Leaks...Never seen what them 4A-GZE does do...esp by the CAS? As i said..based on my needs...reliability...Where Reliable power Ends on the 4A...is where my quest for power on the 4G begins

SR20s...i know you won't be including the bluebird's DETs? Which have much weaker internals even compared to an N/a 4G63. Would you believe an N/a 4G63 crank and rods withstood 5 years of racing in an 11 sec evo 2? And most tuners consider the Red top head to be terrible
Its funny though... a lot of people who own SRs..complain about how often they have to Rebuild or how often the Car gives them wierd Issues.

K20s, Beams 3S, 4E, B18, B16. THese fall well out of my Category List...Cause i said Non variabe valve timing or lift. Notice i made no Mention of Mivec 4G63s or 4G92 Mivec

the 4G92 Mivec right now rules the Sub 1800cc Class in Jamaica in FWD cars..and these remain in Naturally aspirated form. These lil potent engines gave the B16 a run for their money in both power delivery and outright power.

Ps. Search NICO...you'll be suprised how many SRs fell victim to Rod Knock
