Because it's a rehash of the original car. I would have liked it more if they called it Levin/Trueno instead, the front look similar to an AE111

I would have to totally agree with the AE111 comparison and not the AE86. Again, this is insultive to have a legendary car like the 86 in the same sentence as this mut. If Yamaha had built the motor then yes. I believe it gonna turn out like the MR-S, a bust!

Yamaha usually just does the heads on most Toyota engines, and they did the heads on this.
I really like the car, if the base model for the Toyota is around $22,000 it would be nice to have. The Subaru is supposedly $24,000 starting.

I still don't see why Toyota had to go to Subaru for it though, Toyota has enough experience in building sports cars to do it on their own.

I think they went with Subaru to get their hands on a horizontally opposed engine.. to take advantage of the low center of gravity.. not sure.. thats what I figure.

I think they did it to minimize risk of getting a new product to market, plus Toyota has not built a 2 liter engine for any sports car in years so development cost are lower, once it get off the ground the possibilities open up. Also remember Toyota is a share holder of Subaru.

I agree with all of you'll. I guess they are trying to be cost effective with a new product, but does that new product have to be a twin in the same market. From what I've been reading around the web, must people prefer the Subaru version. Thday goes to show that Toyota has lost touch with its sports car heritage and base. Most probably look at Toyota as an eco friendly people mover. Thrive lost their mojo or should I say street cred.
Again, I am against the Toyota version, because it linked this car to a legand, which doesn't match up, is shared, and is a mut. There is talk of new Supra too. I hope every don't screw this up too.

i think the 86 is a great car, at the very least I think it will do well in its home market.
And form what I know it's supposed to be 'cheaper' than the Subaru

I can see a V8 Supra successor, there is supposed to be a new Soarer by 2014

You mean like the V8 from the IS-F or the GS460?
