Hyundai and Mitsubishi sharing engines. the new 86 would definitely not stack up against the Genesis Coupe

with its current engine choice?

The 3S, SR20, 4G63, RB25/26, 1/2JZ etc are all old engine designs. the amount of modifications + the amount of power loss and efficiency loss would not make none of those engines a worthwhile venture for the manufacturers. That's why they have all been replaced.

If you call a boxer motor, which both Porshe, Subaru and SAAB have had for many many many years new, well I really don't know what to think. The horizontally opposed motor has been re-worked many a times so why not any of the aforementioned engine options.

Saab no longer uses the flat four. As I said, the amount of effort and money it takes into developing those older engines to meet current requirements is not worthwhile for those manufacturers.

the JZ and RBs are too big, Toyota and Nissan went the compact V6 route. These engines require less of a lengthy hood as their inline counterpart. Allowing them to create larger crumple zones.

the 4G6x (Sirius) Motors have been around since the 1970s. The cast IRON block is HEAVY, they went to an aluminum Design to save Weight.

Even BMW replaced their inlines in their High performance cars. the M5 now comes with a V8. Times move on, you can either move with it or stay reminiscing. The 4B11 has already started proving its a worthwhile replacement to the 4G63. Nissans VQ series of motors have already proven themselves. the QR is also another Decent engine.
Toyota pretty much dropped out of the Performance game and the lexus's aren't exactly outright performance cars.

And I agree with what your saying. Thats why I mention Toyota should get back with Yahama, instead of Subaru to use an equally outdated engine, which does not represent the true spirit of the AE86. I believe Toyota should not associate this car with the Hachi Roku. Its a kick in the balls to the purists. Toyota has really lost touch.

Digging the Yamaha idea myself.

The head of Toyota himself has said that the company has lost its way in what its customers really WANT to buy from them. And now with their reliability cred starting to fall, they need a new direction. Ford is making headway in revitalising it's client base, Toyota (AND Honda) have work to do as well.

Thats what the argument was about in the first place. not really which engine is best, but the image of the hachi roku being mangled with the use of a boxer. no doubt toyo has atleast one engine that can get the new 86 there.

keep this discussion focused on the image and not which engine is better. and stop bashing lol. this is getting funny.
