How many d/cans are in the states and abroad the depend on the airline? More than the current population maybe, not to mention portsmouth built on Ross now. The success ppl seein up there is a direct result of Ross. The school itself may not be employing many d/cans but indirectly feeding alot of mouths. America not directly feeding d/ca millions but it can be made through other business. As i said earlier stp lookin at hand outs. There are quite a number of ppl studying now so lets see if greater minds can work TOGETHER to carry our business with other businesses not governments

The thing is...we have soo many Dominicans here out of a job who are qualified to run a refinery. --We aren't offering any ground breaking product that other countries do not have to offer. Its just like someone they interviewed on the radio on carnival Monday, He said he likes it here but rather spend his time in Antigua. He can still view wild life, more beaches, play golf etc which Dominica just does not offer.

Dominica itself is not open to new business ideas or attractive for upstarts to help increase the diversity of its economic portfolio.

DOMINICA HAS VAST POTENTIAL TO MAKE MAD MONEY, YET WHAT ARE WE DOING ABOUT IT, WE HOLD THEM FOR LATER BUT WHEN WILL LATER COME.

LOOK AT OUR WATER SOME OF THE SWEETEST TASTING WATER IN THE WORLD YET WE DO NOTHING TO MARKET IT, (PEPSI, COKE, ON AN INTERNATIONAL BASIS)

TOURS SITE ARE MAD CRAZY, NEEDS TO BE MARKETED YET THE GOV'T/TOURISM MINISTRY SCARED TO TAKE A RISK IN MARKETING THE PRODUCTS.

YOU SEE SOME D/CAN THE MND IS MAKE A BIGG MONEY FAST AND THEN WHAT.

MY OPINON++ PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN I WOULD LET THEM FILM IN D/CA FOR FREE THE PAY LOCAL STAFF/ACTORS/ACTRESS, IN RETURN THEY PROVIDE A 10 INFOMERCIAL ON D/CA ON EVERY DVD, AND CABLE OPTION OBLIGATED TO PROVIDE A 60SEC ADVERTS DURING THE MOVIE EVERY TIME PLAYED.
THIS IS WHERE THE BUSINESS MINDED IND COME TO PLAY ONE WHO CAN READ A GOOD BUINESS PLAN/IDEA AND THEY CAN MAKE SOME THING PROFITABLE OUT OF IT.

VACATION PACKAGES--- PULL SOME SUPERB VACATION PACKAGES TOGETHER PROVIDE TO VARIOUS SHOWS UP HERE FOR THEIR PATICIPANTS ALONG WITH A 60 SEC AD OF D/CA. (OPRAH/W.O.F/ ECT)

EVEN AMERICAN AIRLINES/AIRLINES PROVIDE THEM WITH COUPLE PACKAGES THER NEXT ADVERT THEY GONNA BE TELLING THEIR CUSTOMERS THAT THEY GET AN OPP TO GO TO D/CA FOR A WEEK FULL VAC PACAKAGE -TECHNICAL ADD.

GET COUPLE STARS FREE VAC PAC TO D/CA, FREE PUBLICITY, GIVE PAPARAZZI IN D/CA WORK TO DO.

THATS MARKETING ( REASONABLE PRICED MARKETING TOO)

JOBS--

I ENCOURAGE THAT THE GOV'T NEED TO GET MORE COMPANIES UNDER THEIR WING, BECAUSE ITS INMPORTANT THAT THEY GAIN MORE ASSETS AS A GOV'T TWO HOTELS ONE IN TOWN THE OTHER I WOULD PUT IN MARIGOT( AIRPORT) , GOLF COURSE IS A MUST, WE DEFINATELY GOT TO BRING IN THE CASINO THIS ALSO IS WHERE THE GOV'T PROF OFF IT THE ONLY PLACE TO HAVE A CASINO "GOV'T HAVE ALL RIGHTS TO CASINOS" ON ISLE --- IN THE HOTEL IN MARIGOT, HMM,, 150/200 JOBS

TOUR/BUS NEED A NATION WIDE BUSS SERVICE, 3/4 BUSSES FOR EVERY SIDE N/S/E/W/ ECT. REGULAR HOURS ROUTES ECT. 10/15 -JOBS,

GAS STATIONS IS PROFITABLE OPEN A FEW OF THEM 5AM - 12AM HRS/ IN CRUCIAL AREAS OF COURSE. EX THE SOUTH EAST GOT 3 GAS STATIONS OF WHICH 2 OPERATIONAL AND THERE HRS ARE 6-6 HMM.
10/20 JOBS

RECREATION GOV'T SHOULD INVEST IN THIS AFTERALL D/CA AINT GOT ANYTHING TO DO APART FROM, WORK,HOME,SCHOOL,CHURCH. MNTHEND CLUB. THIS LIST IS TOO LONG. AND DUE TO CERTAIN CONTRACT BASIS I CANNOT GO INTO DETAIL ON THIS ONE.
ENDLESS

I THINK WE HAVE ENOUGH ANIMALS ON ISLE TO OPEN A LOCAL ZOO, EITHER PETTING OR WILD. (QUALIFIED JOBS) GREAT TOURIST ATTRACTION.

WHAT WE OFFER

OUR RIVERS /WATERFALLS/GREENS/FONTAINE OF YOUTH/SPA'S/ANIMALS/
CULTURE/CRAFTS/

ALL OF THESE PRESENT A DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE FRM THE OTHER COUNTRIES BUT IS HOW WE MARKET AND PRICE THEM.

Punch had a good point about looking for hand-outs, especially from Government. We too much like to be told what to do to get ahead in life instead of doing our own research to figure out how to advance.

When you talk about national endeavours (Tourism, wildlife, etc) then you have to look to them to let you do what you have to do. But the beurocracy kills a lot of ideas from there. Look at Pirates of the Caribbean filming here...sure whoever was involved put some good cash in their pocket for the time (from government to the guy on the street). But who can say honestly that they are still making money or advancing significantly because of that? We just don't know how to take advantage of big opportunities.

As Globe say, all of us want to make big money fast, and last time i checked, drugs alone that promises that, and it STILL have big risks.

punch i beg to differ. Ross actually employs alot of dominicans in the medical school itself. I really wondering where the mind of our PM is. there are soo many ideas that have come to him and pass out like is nothing. were were on the good track. like what damien was mentioning about that pirates thing, there are many other avenues that we can use to brig investment into the country. what we have to do is concentrate on bringin down the amount of money that leaves the country and increase the amounts coming in and stayin in. Ways like increasing our agricultural exports, concentrating on the nature tourism that will encourage stay over visitors that will eventually spend more money than the cruise visitors(proven fact), and increasing on the cruise tourism. the oil refinery is not they way that we should go at this time.... Just my 2c.

For us to get more money from visitors i think we have to move a bit away from nature Tourism. Tourists want to enjoy the royalties found in their countries but don't have access too. They want to Play golf, They want to be on exclusive beaches, they want to eat exotic foods, they want exclusive shopping not found on the boats.
Do we cater to these people? the ones who Actually spend and have money? No.
For us to reduce money spent overseas, we need a Viable local industry. To have a viable local industry, we need to also reduce the cost of Operation. Since most of the stuff required for operation isn't found locally, then We have to import. Thats where most of the big expenses lies, the Cost of importing ANYTHING. And the Difficulties you face with customs. EVERY investor and Business place in Dominica HATES dealing with customs. Even when their documents are in order they are slowed down. There is soo much that needs be adjusted if this country is to get ready for any investors. They need to make steps necessary for the country to be investor friendly, not Just foreign investor friendly but INVESTOR on a whole. Its a shame milk is not even produced locally anymore. basic necessities like that have to be imported.

There are Hundreds of Dominicans employed directly and indirectly by Ross. Some are there as technicians, Some as Lecturers, Dominicans are on the faculty, the Financial controller is Dominican, the Dean is Dominican. They offer scholarships to Dominicans. Ross is a major contributer to the economy. They also Account for Most of the power consumption in the north, which helps keep efficiency up with reduced waste energy. They also provide a lot of health care, visit the PMH and you will find a lot of ROSS students who are also Dominican there.

WRT to American Eagle...if i could use eagle to go everywhere in the Caribbean, I would....F*** Liat.

We need other Caribbean Islands, a vast majority of our produce sells in other islands. They also help our voice be heard in the Wider market....Strength in Numbers

I HAD FAITH THAT SKEW WAS THE YOUNG INDIVIDUAL, WHO WAS GOING TO BRING CHANGE TO THE COUNTRY WILLING TO ACCEPT THE NEW AND INNOVATIVE IMPROVING/INTERNATIONAL WORLD.. I SAW HIM AS THE MAN WHO WAS GOING TO TAKE D/CA OUT OF THE CRAZY BACKWARD THINKING THAT WE WERE SET IN. AND BROADEN OUR VISION TO NEW IDEAS, POSITIVE IDEAS, WILLING TO TAKE A CHANCE ON A YOUNG BUSINESS INDIVIDUAL IDEAS, SHOW THAT A YOUNG MAN CAN MAKE A SERIOUS DIFFERENCE. UNFORTUNATELY I WAS DISAPPOINTED.

REMEBER THAT SAYING "GIVE A YOUNG MAN A CHANCE", I SAW POSSIBILITIES WITH THAT LINE MAN I WAS READY TO USE THAT LINE AS MY RESUME.

I WAS SO F*CK*N WRONG.

People in Dominica are so blind and takeing everything for granted , Who is already out say amen whose in say we are in for great problems cause if we havent noticed you guys think that all this backfilling of land in marigot is for runway extention huh think twice this is in my point of view an army base ,in Dominica we show like we are so hungry and everyone takes us for a ride honestly speaking i do think that this govt shouldnt be allowed to continue and finish this term in office should be desolved imidiately before things get worst . but then again we dominicans are crucks we say we are going to do this and at the end we turn for the worst , think its time we share the word and those of us who claim to be educated educate the masses before its to late , sorry if anyone may feel offended but this is just my point of view .

all I can say is we in some deep cow dung with all whats going on. And the "work" that is happening up melville hall is "productive". I would want to know who will be coming and land in d\ca in the night, it is hell trying to land in the day. And I have to agree with damien on the drug part. And I think d\cans are just wicked. because they support the gov't or have some affiliation ANY thing they do is good. That refinery is bad business for us, we not them other larger countries that can accommodate refinery and so on, many people want to go green and we have it right there. D\ca can develop thing is when it comes to that, the only development is some person\people pocket and not the masses. Lets just hope they dont start doing us like j\cans and start denying us visa. the kinda things that does be said on radio airwaves, lol.
