Sine there aren't any 1st Gen Forester S/turbos in the U.S we decided to make our own. We picked up a 1998 Forester L, with a 5 speed as our platform. The car had a few dents on it, not to mention a huge one on the roof because they threw a bike down on it. But it popped right out and had a burnt head gasket. Anyhow, we have a long long long road ahead of us. First things first the JDM Forester is RHD and has a 2.0 EJ20 boxer engine. We are going wit a 2.5 DOHC motor. This will be the stock EJ25D head on stock open deck Block with a T3 garrett turbo and emanage (10psi). Some might ask why not a jdm swap, well OBDII is the issue. We won't pass emission since jdm engines don't have the obdii emissions shit.

Step 1:
Replace the headgasket and top end rebuild.
get rid of the dents
JDM forester grille,hood,corner lamps,tail lights,front lip,rear lip, rear roof spoiler, mid wing and side skirts

There's all for now. The engine bay was cleaned, noticed 2 busted inner boot rubbers on the front axles. That will be taken care then some black magic engine shine and power wash!

did you change the oil pump???

yup yup, genuine oil pump,waterpump, thermostat,subaru timing belt,idler,tensioner, subaru metal headgasket, aftermarket seal kit.

The engine is back together,just need to find time in my busy schedule to put the engine back in the car. Get it ready for exterior mods and wheels and tint on all windows except the front driver and passenger side and windshield (illegal to do so in NJ) Gonna be a waiting game for the JDM spoiler, lip etc. Mean while the rear brakes will be converted to disc.

Judging by how well this one goes I'll consider getting one myself. So far I'm impressed by a number of things

1. The simplicity of the engine setup, you can't do extensive work with motor in car, could get off with doing timing belt but that's about it, doing valve cover gasket change would suck.

2. The wiring is an ease, wiring harness has a connector separating the engine from the rest of the harness.Doing that on any car would be a nice upgrade.

3.Engine is a work of art, a lot of attention to detail, plus its super light, two man job.

I think the forester is a practical lil crossover/suv/car whatever its called. The awd system is super. Compared with a Toyota Highlander, Ford Explorer and a 08 Sequoia I think the Forester is more predictable, and better traction in the snow.

i totally agree, i am very impressed with mine

Engine's back in, had some bloody problems with air in the cooling system. We put the engine back in without using a hoist. 6 exhaust bolts and 4 tranny to flywheel bolts and 2 motor mount nuts, its a wrap. Gonna break it in for a bit then,commence moding.
