Impreza is not the car you buy for speed. EVO's have always generally been faster and better handling, even the newest ones. This is why tuner examples of EVO's are far more common and easier to find. However, I believe the version VI Sti-R or the 1998 22b (factory stroked to 2.2L instead of the regular 2.0; which in good condition actually costs more now than a new 2006 WRX non-Sti!!!) from Japan would've put up a better fight than the UK spec P1. I just believe that the Subaru ages better i.e overall an old Subaru is better than an old Mitubishi despite an engine that seems very tricky to run hard and tune. I am obviously biased, but at the end of the day is either you into Subaru or not

the 22B would be expensive cause it was a very limited run car and u had to meet special credentials for subaru to consider you to own one. The UK spec P1 is faster than a lot of the JDM cars...including the STi Type R considering its a JDM type R imported then uprated with a few goodies. Ages better in what sense? The evos hold their price value pretty good and in some cases better than the subarus
