this is the first outboard V8
some pics:
for those who dont know....outboards usually have a vertical crankshaft with horizontal cylinders........most are 2 stroke with carburettors, but there are exceptions where u have fuel injected 2-stroke, or carburetter-4-stroke.......this engine is 4 stroke fuel injected, like modern automotive engines.
specs:
V8 60*
5330cc
350hp @5,500rpm
DOHC with variable cam timing
wet sump lubrication
electric start
804lbs with the 25 inch shaft and 822lbs with the 30 inch shaft( for different sizes of boats)
3 year warranty....

The oil is kept in a sump below the engine block and above the waterline so that the oil can be drained. Although this is a job that really needs to be done with the vessel hauled due to the very good possibility of spilling the oil.
Yamaha has made the first V8 four stroke outboard but OMC had a V8 two stroke 300 HP for many years. Mercury has a 300 HP four stroke outboard but it is a V6 and supercharged. It is also at least 100 LB's lighter.
All high hp outboards whether two stroke or four are now fuel injected with two stroke engines having direct straight into the cylinders fuel injection.
