Tunerman where most of the big guns (supra wise that I know off) are lacking is in the tunning department, owners to avoid lag went with small turbine housing or small turbos, to avoid engine damage they resorting to running almost as rich and richer than stock AFRs. This means that the only way they make more power is to run more boost, yet with the maps being so off they making way less power than they should. The small turbine housing limits the turbo at higher boost level almost choking the turbo, so at the end of the day they reduce lag get blistering acceleration but do not have top end where their projects should shine. Last but not least they all running under 20 psi (15 to 17psi). They know it and are working on or planning on get these areas corrected.
Robby what is your take on the red evo spool up time? That one has a rather large turbine housing 1plus. Rumors are that it should be up and about soon.

Ever consider that these cars need maintenance and the current road conditions are not favorable to these cars. When the roads fix they will be back out

I found the Red Evo's acceleration amazing, but that's using my ass dyno. I look forward to seeing how it performs on the GTEC and RED vs. Yellow Evo.

In Dominica we don't have the space to truly utilize top end on a 1 or 2J with a big turbo. We have short stretches and many corners, and thats why a smaller more responsive unit is better. Thats why the Evos and Wrxs look so good.

Not completely true, the red evo runs a gt dual ball bearing turbo normal placed on the 1jz and with a bigger turbine housing that most guy use on a 1jz (.82 is usually used on the soarers, the evo has a 1.06 I think)yet it does move. From what I have heard it sees full boost very early. Bigger turbos usually require that you run more boost to make the most of them and that your tuning is a bit more involved.

Not entirely the case. Too small of a housing would choke power even on our roads where you can feel the power tapper off even in low gears like 2nd.

Large turbos also flow larger volumes of air which in turn increases the volume of exhaust gases. If you use too small of a turbine housing you are going to restrict flow.

We have even tested swapping to a larger housing on one car and got better spool and top end power characteristics.

Hopefully in the next couple months things would change up a bit.

I'm not saying put a T04 on a 1/2J nor am I saying put a GT45 on 4 banger. I'm just saying for the Dominica application you need something reasonable like a 60-1 or a 62. I think the .82 a/r would not work too well in DA, because again road space and most who use .82s are well modified and need the extra flow. You want to enjoy driving your car and not have to fight it. Also, I may be wrong, but the red Evo has a twin scroll turbo setup, hence 1.06 a/r.
