Engine Knock

They range 0-36

Numbers represent noise as picked up by the "microphone" knock sensor.

I would not want to see over 18-20.

I try to leave the final tune in maximum 0-3 count range.

During the tuning process it is not irregular to see 7-10's.

These events need to take place in order to locate the thresh holds. Also rattly downpipe, engine parts, lifters and high lift cams can also set of the sensor.

This is what my Evo Tunner said to me, is this correct?

Here is a graph of the type of data i am sending to the tunner.
I started right next to the church, thus you can figuare out the turns based on the throttle.

I sent some logs to my tuner and he told me I shifted like a Granny, lol. Here is the conversation, there are some important tips and info included.

Looks like you are double clutching or something. You should not see 2 peaks in between shifts on the zeitronix logs. Whatever you are doing there is setting off the sensor. Foot off gas, clutch in, shift lever change, clutch out, gas in. should only make one interruption in the log, not two.

I would recommend to cease trying to "no lift shift" the car as it makes the ignition timing numbers too high. Either no lifting or some kind of blipping of the throttle when you shift is going on. It drives up the ignition timing to 17*, when it should be 5-7*.

Yeah its bad news... It makes the ECU look up a different load cell with timing that is too high for the boost you are about to hit. That is a factory part of the map, not anything I have programmed.

The effect on performance is that it needs say 7* max timing and when you blip it looks up 17* for example which is too high for the point where you finally put the gas pedal down so it knocks until it pulls down the timing not only back to 7*, but another 5-8* lower to 0 or -2 as evidenced in your logs, with this timing the combustion process is maily taking place in the exhaust and not in the cylinder as the explosion is so late. These gasses are not pushing the piston down, but are escaping out the exhaust valve instead.

You can still shift FAST, just dont double clutch. Your look like you're granny shifting. lol

Here are the Castle Bruce logs and his comments.

Tuner
Artwork... those were good looking pulls. Touched out a degree of timing in 3 cells here.

Touched out a degree of timing in 3 cells here.??? What do you mean.

Tuner
One log looked great, the other looked good also, with a little more noise at 5000-6000. I removed a degree in 3 cells you were running in.

I have included the log shows the knock with relations to the RPM's
