it must be the off set on the rims are way to far out so they had to put a skinnier tire so that it could fit under the fender especially when its flexing!! putting the right size tire would most likely make the tires rub bad

that's unsafe, infact many tire shops here will not mount certain tire widths on certain rims.. I'm going with 18x10 in the back with 255/40/18 and 235 or 225 upfront on 18x8.5 no spacers.

The whole thing behind that is Stretching the tire produces a Stiffer sidewall with less FLEX
